Five with the Founder: Double Dutch’s Raissa & Joyce de Haas

1. How would you describe the spirit of Double Dutch?

Bold, Vibrant and Refreshing! Double Dutch is all about mixing things up and making every occasion feel special and memorable. As a brand we embody a maximalist, “more is more” mentality, bringing the party in a way only the Dutch can — The spirit of Double Dutch is all about fun, camaraderie, and the joy of being with friends—what we in Dutch call ‘Gezellig’.

2. What is your favourite Christmas tradition?

For us, Christmas is all about hosting friends and family. We love creating a festive atmosphere and always make sure to make some special drinks. Every year in the week before Christmas and New Years, we, along with our mum, make a point to sample different champagnes together. We love hunting down delicious bottles, often vintages, and making them the centerpiece of our celebrations. The champagne we choose influences the food we buy, so it really brings everything together in such a special way.

3. You’re known for breaking the market mold by introducing new flavors to mixers and tonics. Which is your favourite?

That’s a tough one! If we had to choose, for winter we’d say our ‘Cranberry & Ginger tonic’  It’s the perfect balance of tart and warming spice, making it versatile for all kinds of cocktails, especially during the colder months. Our ultimate favourite pairing is with a dark rum – super easy but delicious.

4. No-Low? Is it a thing?

Absolutely! The No-Low trend is really exciting, especially with Gen Z leading the charge toward more mindful drinking. With more people looking for lower alcohol or non-alcoholic options, it’s been fantastic to see the rise of incredible no-low spirits. At Double Dutch, we’re all about creating mixers that work just as well with these innovative spirits as they do with traditional ones.

5. Favourite Cocktail of All Time?

For an alcoholic option, we’re a big fan of a classic Gin & Tonic, but we love adding a twist with something like our ‘Pomegranate & Basil’ mixer—it’s refreshing but complex. For a non-alcoholic option, we’re all about a Virgin Paloma—refreshing, zesty, and a total crowd-pleaser.
